Play Carta

Terrain wavetable synth

Carta

Pick a place on the map and play the ground there. Each west to east row of terrain is one wave, and morph walks you from north to south.

What it does

From a map to a synth

01

Pick a place

Tap the map, search a name or type a latitude and longitude. Carta reads a 5, 10 or 50 km square of ground.

Carta with the wave tab open: a map with the chosen square, the terrain in 3D with its wave in the corner, and the morph slider.
02

Let mods move it

Up to six mods move morph, the filter and most effects. Each has its own shape, rate and depth.

A control sits at the value you set, shown as a dashed line. A mod swings it up and down around that value in a smooth wave, and depth is how far the swing goes either way.deptha mod swings the controlaround the value you set

Play a melody from the ground

The terrain pattern walks the square from west to east. Higher ground plays higher notes and rougher ground plays louder, in the scale you choose.

A strip of terrain split into eight columns, west to east. Below it, one note per column: where the ground is higher the note sits higher, and where it is lower the note sits lower.westeasthigher ground, higher note

Play it your way

Computer keys, a MIDI keyboard or a keyboard on screen. Touch a key lower to play it louder.
