Play Stacks

Generative brick sequencer

Stacks

Build a pyramid of bricks that plays patterns on its own. Operator bricks transform the ones beneath them, and you can change it while it runs.

A pyramid of coloured bricks, each showing a bar pattern, on a studded green baseplate.

What it does

Make a pattern, then keep changing it

01

Bricks combine bricks

The bottom row makes patterns. Every brick above reads the two beneath it: one is the source, the other changes it.

The stack: bricks in four rows on a green slab, each with a name, a length and a bar pattern, and a row of chord tiles underneath.
02

Short loops, long cycles

Bricks of different lengths only line up again after a long time. Pick a key, scale and chords, set a loop, or let drift change the stack by itself.

Two rows of twelve cells. The top row repeats every three steps and the bottom row every four. Both start together at the left and only line up again after twelve steps, at the right. A line says a five-step brick would stretch that to sixty.togethertogether againrepeats every 3 stepsrepeats every 4 stepslined up again after 12 stepsadd a 5-step brick and it takes 60

Voices make it heard

Any brick can play one or more voices. Each is a built-in sound and a MIDI channel, with its own level and echo.

Start from a stack

Step through built-in banks, grow a stack from any word, or start from a blank one and place your own bricks.

The word ember on the left, an arrow marked grow, and on the right a pyramid of coloured bricks, four on the bottom row and one at the top. A line says the same word always grows the same stack, on any device.embergrowthe same word always grows the same stack, on any device
