Memory effect

Rumour

Play into it, then stop. Rumour keeps going on what it remembers, a little different each time.

Rumour: the memory drawn as a blue-black inkblot on pale paper, mirrored about a fold, under its header and tabs.

What it does

It remembers, then retells

01

The memory, drawn as ink

Up to ten seconds of what you played, drawn as an inkblot mirrored about a fold. Thick ink is where you played loud, and each loop leaves its own colour.

The inkblot filling the window: dark ink swelling from left to right with pale holes where the loops are reading, and the menu button in the corner.
02

Loops that never line up

Up to six loops replay the memory, each a different length, so they drift in and out of phase. Grains add a cloud on top.

Five rows of tick marks, one for each loop, all starting together on the left. Each row repeats at its own length, so the ticks line up at the start and then drift apart, which is how up to six loops fall in and out of phase over the same memory.
03

A chord rebuilt from the sound

Resynth listens for the strongest notes in the sound and plays them again on up to 33 oscillators. Smear blurs it into a wash, and follow plays a copy at another pitch.

On the left, a spread of vertical lines of different heights, with the tallest few picked out in colour: the strongest notes in the sound. An arrow leads to the right, where those notes are drawn again as a stack of waves, one for each oscillator, up to 33 in all.listensplays again
04

One drag, up to four controls

Each of the four macros moves up to four controls at once, so one drag changes the whole sound.

A dotted path from a hollow circle to a filled one on the left: a single drag. Dashed lines run from where it ends to four horizontal lines on the right, each with a hollow circle where the control started and a filled circle where it moved to. One drag moves up to four controls at once, some further than others.
