Multi-tap delay
Klangtal
Two rivers carry sound down the valley through multi-tap delay lines that feed back into each other. Effects sit inside the loop or outside it.
What it does
A delay you can see
01Two lanes of taps
Each lane is a river with one to eight buoys. Drag a buoy downstream and its echo comes later.
02Effects in three places
Before the delay, an effect changes the sound once. Inside the feedback it changes every echo again as it comes round. After, only what you hear.
03One bridge between the lanes
Cross sends returning echoes into the other lane. Zigzag has every other buoy listen across, so echoes step from side to side.
04Steps let new sound in
Each lane has its own row of 4 to 16 steps. Echoes carry on through closed steps, and lanes of different lengths drift apart.
Features
More of what it has
- Effects: speaker, grit, tremolo, phase, stutter, reverb, tape, ensemble and formant.
- Sync: delay times can follow the tempo, and so can phase, tremolo and stutter.
- Stereo: spread pans the lanes apart, and swirl turns the echoes round.
- Link lanes: an edit to either lane goes to both.
- Look: dawn, day, dusk or night, and calm or stormy weather, saved with each preset.
- Presets: 27 in seven banks, with share codes and files.
- Sources: synthesised demos, an audio file, or your microphone with headphones on.
- Undo and redo for every edit.
- BrowsernowA prototype: Chrome, Edge or Safari. The valley needs WebGL 2. The microphone needs permission and headphones.
- iPadplannedAn iPad version is planned. Until then it runs in Safari on the iPad.
