A reader walks over tiles and plays them. Each has its own speed, so several readers make loops of different lengths.Tap a reader to change it; tap the readers heading to come back to the list.A grid reader walks a stretch of the grid; set it with the strip under the grid. A pick reader walks tiles picked from anywhere.A triangle, circle, bar or fan reader is a shape laid on the grid that plays the tiles inside it. Draw one with the shape tool; drag it to move it and drag its handle (the round dot at its far end) to size and turn it.Hits and steps leave rests: 5 of 8 plays five steps in every eight, spread evenly; all plays every step. Shift starts the rhythm later: 2 of 16 shifted by 4 is a backbeat. Chance skips steps at random. With walk only on hits a reader holds its place on a rest, so its tiles play in turn, like a drum line. Length, vary and fade shape each note.A tile no reader can reach shrinks.
time

Hold repeat under the grid to loop the last few steps.

look

Shapes show in full while you edit them (this tab open, or the shape tool on), and as you choose here the rest of the time.

moves

One-tap changes to the whole grid, and changes that keep running. Undo takes back any move.Scatter sends every slice to a new place (it's under the grid too). Sort orders by loudness, then brightness, then back home.Gravity sinks the loud tiles to the bottom of each column. Mirror copies the left half onto the right, upside down, so it plays backwards.Turn all gives every tile a quarter turn. Chop gives every tile a random slice. Reset puts every tile back.Spread copies tiles into their neighbours. Rot wears them away. Teleport swaps two tiles every two beats.
running
taps

With the play tool: tap a tile to play it, hold to stutter, drag to scrub. Turn neighbours also turns the four tiles around the one you play.

tiles

The grid and how the tiles look.Tile size sets how many tiles fill the screen, so how many slices each sample is cut into.Detail is how many shapes and colours the tiles may use, quiet to loud. Fewer is blockier.Gap opens space between the tiles. The colours and tile sets are in ⋯.

Smaller tiles mean more of them and shorter slices. Changing the size cuts the samples again and clears undo, and so does turning the screen if the grid no longer fits.

fx

Effects on everything, in this order.Bits crushes the sound to fewer levels; 16 is clean. Sample rate lowers it.Cutoff and reso are a low-pass filter.Echo bounces left and right in time with the readers. The resonator rings at a note, with a fifth, an octave and a twelfth above it: noisy slices turn into tones. Space is a reverb: shimmer adds an octave rising out of it, and freeze (f) holds it as it is while new notes play over it, dry.Tape wobbles, drifts and saturates everything at the end.

mod

Slow mods that move other controls for you. Three to start, up to six.On starts one. Pick a shape, then tap → to choose what it moves: an fx control, or a reader's chance, length, fade, level, shift, size or place.Sync locks a mod to the tempo. Fold bounces off the ends; clamp stops there.+ add a mod adds one, ✕ takes one away. Randomise sends every mod somewhere new.Rings on the sliders show where a value sits now.
